Dr. Christine Su is currently a Program Director at the Center for Lao Studies (CLS) in San Francisco, California. Prior to joining CLS, Christine was the Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Ohio University, U.S.A.. At Ohio, she spearheaded new study abroad and exchange programs with institutions in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Cambodia in addition to managing the everyday operations of the Center, such as administering the master’s program in Southeast Asian Studies.
Under her leadership, CSEAS added numerous new undergraduate and graduate classes to the curriculum, including an undergraduate survey course on Southeast Asia, a graduate seminar on Cambodia, and the first-ever class in Malay language at Ohio, and enrolled some of its largest and most diverse graduate student classes to date. She has published extensively on Southeast Asian and Southeast Asian American issues, and has been active in Southeast Asian communities in Hawaii, Ohio, and California. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame.
She loves writing, and spent several years as the Director of Research and Education and Associate Editor for Communications Pacific, one of the largest public relations firms in Hawaii. She will assist CARE with its strategic planning, fundraising, and marketing.
